Wet Clay & Potter's Wheel: What to Expect
Can I try the potter's wheel as a walk-in at The Bent Brush?
While our pottery painting is open for walk-ins, our Potter's Wheel experiences and wet clay classes require advanced registration. This ensures an instructor is available to guide you through the techniques of centering and throwing clay at our Cape Coral studio.
How much does wet clay cost, and does the 'no studio fee' rule apply?
The price for wet clay includes the clay, one bisque firing, one painting session, and a glaze fire. An in progress fee will apply if you require a second painting session.
What should I wear for a potter's wheel class?
Clay can be messy! We recommend wearing comfortable clothes—ideally pants or shorts rather than skirts. Short sleeves are best for the wheel, and we highly recommend having short fingernails. Please bring a hair tie to keep long hair back for safety while the wheel is spinning.
How long is the process from raw clay to a finished piece?
Working with wet clay is a journey! First, you'll sculpt or throw your piece. It then needs to dry completely before its first (bisque) firing. You will return for a second session to paint and glaze it. Total turnaround from raw clay to pick-up is typically 2 to 3 weeks.
Is the potter's wheel suitable for children in Southwest Florida?
Yes! We offer clay experiences for various age groups in Lee County. While hand-building is great for younger children, we typically recommend the potter's wheel for ages 10 and up to ensure they have the physical coordination needed to manage the spinning clay effectively.
Baby Clay Prints
Preserve your child’s precious hand & foot prints in clay! The perfect keepsake! Capture a moment in time in a ceramic keepsake that you will treasure for a lifetime. We gently press hands, feet or paws into a soft slab of clay. Clay prints require slow drying time and 2 firings. Please allow up to 3 weeks to complete the process.

If you don’t have prior experience, a class will be required. Wheel classes are by registration. Contact us for details.
